The function f(x,y) is such that f(x,y) = (3x + 7y)/(x+y), where $$x+y\neq{0}$$.

In the table, select a value for x and a value for y corresponding to f(x,y) = 4. Make only two selections, one in each column.

x --- y
------- 3
------- 5
------- 7
------- 9
------- 12

For the above expression:

f(x,y) = 3x+7y/x+y, where x+y != 0, if the value of f(x,y) = 4, the expression can be reduced to:

f(x,y) = 4 = 3x+7y/x+y
=> x = 7y - 4y
=> x = 3y

From the table of values given I am assuming we are to select two values which are fit the equation f(x,y).

The only values which match the above condition are 3 and 9. Hence f(9,3) = 4. **edited as rajmatthew pointed out. Thanks Raj!

Please correct me if I am wrong!

Hi I feel x should be 9 and y =3 unlike how you put. You can substitute and see for yourself

Here the equation x= 3y will give us one solution i.e. x= 9,y=3 from the given set of values.

after solving x= 3y so x=9 and Y = 3
