B and E because of use of plural.
D awkward -
Between A and C, I would pick A

C
'On account of' is awkward.
The noun is singular, so we cannot use "their"

I go with C. Usage of 'it' here is not ambiguous.
A doesn't sound good.
Others are clearly eliminated

I am pretty sure this one is C
A is awkward
B is wrong due to "their" which should be singular "it"
C is correct
D "living" part is incorrect (like in A and B)
E wrong agreement they-crabs, not crab

YEs it should be C.
' it ' correctly refers to golden crab and leaves no room for ambiguity.
Also the construction 'primarily because' is absolutely fine.

C it is.
Subject is "golden crab", which is singular. "on account of" is awkward.

Will go with C.
Golden crab is singular hence "it" is okay.
Also on account of is awkward.

I go with A,
"primarily because it lives" i cannot digest this.
if primarily had not been there then having "because it lives" makes sense.
" on account of (its) living" i support A.

A) on account of living B) on account of their living C) because it lives D) because of living E) because they live
GMAT prefers because rather than on account of. Therefore, CDE are left. It refers to/modifies the golden crab, not the number of golden crabs. Therefore C.
OA is C.

I need help on this. Isn't the referent of "it" ambiguous in C?
What does "it" refer to? The "Golden crab" or "Gulf of Mexico" ?
Please explain.

I will go with C; singular subject, singular verb. redpearl wrote: I need help on this. Isn't the referent of "it" ambiguous in C?

Please explain. You can remove "Gulf of Mexico" while finding the subject because it is a part of prepositional phrase.

this question is troubling.
doing is prefered when the subject is in the active clause
I learn gmat by reading the experts posting on gmatclub
but because the crab here is not doing something so "living" is not acceptable.
I am fined because of learning badly
is not good.
I am not clear. pls, expert, help

I am not clear. pls, expert, help Hey pls mention your pick i mean which answer you picked. The correct option here is C. Though the option has it and even Gulf of mexico is singular but note that after it there is verb lives . Hence ther is no question of pronoun ambiguity as Gulf of mexico is not living creature it cannot live. hence answer is C!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -------------------------------------------- Consider Kudos, If my post helped!!!!!!
