The historical trend toward greater life expectency is [#permalink]

The historical trend toward greater life expectency is leading to
new problems for health care providers. Heart disease, the number one
killer in the US today, is to some extent a consequence of simply
growing older, the exception being those cases that stem from birth
defects. For most of us simply growing older means that we are more
likely to develop heart disease, for reasons that are not clear to
reasearchers studying the problem. A complex combination of factors
including age, diet, exercise, stress levels, and inherited
tendencies all seem to play a role in the incidence of heart disease.
Which of the following can be correctly inferred from the statements
above?
a. Heart disease in the US today is approaching epidemic proportions.
b. Heart disease was once a major problem only for the newborn
infants.
c. The percentage of 70 year olds suffering from heart disease today
is higher than it was 100 years ago.
d. A healthy diet combined with regular excercise can prevent heart
disease.
e. The percentage of the population developing heart disease today is
higher than it was 100 years ago.

D was tricky but E takes it.
C can be negated. The argument only says that as people get older, they are more likely to develop heart disease. There is no such comparison in the argument about today's 70 yr-old people versus 100 yr ago's 70 yr old people

E.
Since more people are getting older, more people are also developing heart diseases since getting heart disease is a factor of getting older.

E for me......Was debating between C and E....But C has a flaw in that even the same number of 70 years old might be having heart disease...But E..It makes it over the whole population and since the population is growing older andolder and risks of heart also increase along with it...anbd so does the percentage...
