I would pick D - the "hormone is secreted in higher concentrations," not "the hormone is secreted during sleep in higher..." D also supplies the word "during" to show exactly when the hormone is secreted in higher concnetrations.

How about E?
I will go with E...

If I could go back and change my answer I would change it to E. On a second look E seems to obey the rule of parallelism while D does not..."during sleep then during waking..."

I'll go with 'E'.
Comparing "sleep" and "waking hours" doesn't make sense in 'D'. Also avoid 'ing' forms.

What E says is thet harmone sleep or wake... Which is wrong.. They are in high concentration during sleep than in waking hours...

I go with D.
During sleep than during waking hours seems to capture the essence correctly. This conveys the time period when the secretions are higher!
E - in higher concentrations when asleep than when awake - something seems to be missing in here. (not quite the GMAT way of reasoning i know!)
When asleep - when who is asleep? sounds wierd!

OA is D for this one.
I also chose E for the parallellism but it might be a little strange to say that a homone is a awake or asleep.

Yeah precisely! E sounds like the hormone is asleep. Also, the essence here is that secretion increases duing a period of time and this while you are sleeping or while you are awake! (waking hours here!!!)
