E is best...correct comparison

hmm. The growth hormone seems to be the subject of the sentence. Is it sleeping at the time?

I think it is D. We are comparing two time periods. "during sleep" and "during waking hours". We need to use the awkward construction "waking hours" because there is no direct antonym for the word "sleep" in this context. (try to find one: "during wake?" :? )

I opt for D and E at the first glance.
At the second, I choose E. (D sounds very tempting too)

So ... then ....how to choose between D and E

AkamaiBrah, you have provided explanation for "why D", but what about "why not E" ???

A and B are wrong because "higher concentrations" needs to modify hormone and not sleep.

C is awkward (can't come up with a better explanation ... ANYONE???)

OFFICIAL ANSWER PLEASE??
