Superficial parallelism is what this Q is testing.

The modifier language variations which originate from diverse ethnic and cultural heritages and perpetuated by geographic isolation modifies regional dialects

Clearly which is not the correct one as it needs to touch the word before it.

B is a tempting answer but regional dialects can originate yesterday, today and tomorrow. B cuts this and puts into past tense.

D IMO takes care of this and is the correct answer.

IMO C. In answers we have present or past participle used as adjectives. I think that first of them "originate" indicates a completed thing, so correct is "originated". For paralelism i chose "perpetuated", even if think that would be correct and "perpetuating". What is the OA?

I will open a topic with this problem, past participle vs present participle.

The increased popularity and availability of televisions has led to the decline of regional dialects, language variations which originate from diverse ethnic and cultural heritages and perpetuated by geographic isolation.
(A) which originate from diverse ethnic and cultural heritages and perpetuated
(B) that originated from diverse ethnic and cultural heritages and perpetuated
(C) originated from diverse ethnic and cultural heritages and perpetuated
(D) originating from diverse ethnic and cultural heritages and perpetuated
(E) originating from diverse ethnic and cultural heritages and perpetuating

We can rewrite the question sentence given as follows:

language variations which originate from divese ethnic and cultural heritages and which are perpetuated by ~

...And we know we could make the "which ~" part short like...originating and perpetuated...So answer should be D.

"originated" is passive while we need an active voice to fit in, that's why C is out. "Originated" calls for a "by smthg", not "from smthg".

IMO D)

C) is wrong since it contains past. However regional dialects still originate although their origination is in decline
