The Journey to GMAT Begins [#permalink] New post 07 Feb 2008, 14:18
Hi All,

I am starting on my study plan for GMATfrom today. My target score....surprise.... surprise 710. My target schools:- Wharton, Chiacgo, Stanford.

My plan is to give the exam end of April. I had done a Kaplan practice test a couple of months ago and managed 580 despite leaving many questions unattempted. I am hoping that i should be able to now increase my score to 710 through practice and hardwork.

From now till April i plan to do 37 maths problems or 41 verbal questions every day so that i get into the groove. For this i am using the two books of KAPLAN GMAT Comprehensive programme as well as Princeton Review. Every fortnight i will give a GMAT CAT and will be tracking my progress. Along the way my plan is to share and pick up some score enhancng tips.

Please feel free to advice me on my study plan and share any suggestions.

Hi Raoul,

since you are starting out, i'd recommend searching for "success stories" on the Share Your GMAT Experience forum and looking at what successful gmat takers used as their sources, you will be able to gauge what you need to do to emulate other's success.

What you will find repeatedly is this theme:
OG11 (Official Guide 11th edition)
OG Quant and Verbal Reviews (OG11 Supplements)
Manhattan GMAT Sentence Correction book (MGMAT SC, comes with 7 free tests)
Challanges (now known as GMATClub tests)
and THIS FORUM for participation.
SC1000 material (free download from lots of sources)

the CAT to take is GMATPrep (but don't waste it since u only get 2 untarnished attempts)

hence the above should give more than enough for 3 months study and might I suggest that you should ditch the Kaplan materials (the test u did is in no way indicative of score or material of your current capabilities, let me assure you).

cheers,

buff

welcome bud... i'm shooting for the same as you... planning to take the gmat around april as well.. let me tell you the kaplan test is not indicative of the actual GMAT.

Hi All

The last few days has been a herculean task trying to manage between a job and studying but i am managing not to loose too many practice sessions. One of the Observations is that while i am doing Kaplan- the Math ias well as Verbal seems to be pretty challenging while practice questions from Princeton Review seem relatively easier.

Not sure is any of the other people have had similar experiences. While people are advising me not to take account of the Kaplan results my questions to them is " Is that because Kaplan is too difficult or Is Kaplan not a true refection of GMAt at all?

I need some feedback on whats the closest test material to GMAT (other than the Official Guides)so that i can measure my progress against a definite yardstick.

In the meantime i have covered most of my basic math stuff and only some very difficult stuff is left out like probability and co-ordinate geometry.

Signing out for now
