the management of a store holding a 4 week sale finds that the average of daily sales increases each week by the same amount. if the overall average for the entire sale was 3,300\$ and the average for week 3 was 20% higher than the average for week 2, by how much did the average for the last week exceed the average daily sales for the first week ?

Let x be the first week avg and y be the increment amount.
So we have for each week:

x x+y x+2y x+3y

4x+6y = 4*3300

2x+3y = 6600------(1)

2y = y + (x+y)/5
4y = x -----(2)

From Eq 1 and 2

y = 2*300

y = 600

So amt of increase = 3y = 1800

1. week: x
2. week: x+y
3. week: x+2y
4. week: x+3y

=> (4x+6y)=3300 => 4x+6y=6600 <=> 1 eq

and the average for week 3 was 20% higher than the average for week 2 => x+2y=1,2 (x+y) <=> 2 eq

solve 1 + 2 and you get B)
