This post received KUDOS
IMO A.
I have found two errors in option B. One is the issue with parallelism and second one is "rate" cannot be singular for many fishes - it has to be rates.
The grammar rule states that when you are changing the "number" from singular to plural, repeat the noun - (MGMAT Pronouns)

comparison rates with other fishes is wrong, so A and C remains.. Usage of idiom compared with is correct when you compare elements of the same type. So IMO A. OA Plzzz

to show comparison between unlike things, compare to is used. to show comparison between like things, compare with is used. hence B C n D r out. E - metabolic rate is compared with fishes. hence incorrect. hence IMO A.

Consider as consider to is all wrong). In his latest poem, he compares moon to a silver plate . Hope this helps.

my pick is (B).
compare to is for 'similarities'
the rate of sharks is compared to other fishes' rate.
What is the OA?

IMO is B in A they are comparing rate of sharks to rates of fishes. In order to keep parallelism option B is better, I believe.

According to Manhattan GMAT, GMAT does not differentiate between compared with and compared to. So basing your answer on idiomatic distinction is not applicable in this case. In order to maintain parallelism both parts need to use rate singular, but not plural, hope that helps.

+1 A According to MGMAT SC, you should avoid the possesive in plural nouns. This is the case of B. OA?

Seems like a very Un-GMAT like question here. A and B are both slightly problematic IMO. In A -- we have "rates"..and in B we have " Fishes' "...

A or B. A compares the metabolic rate of sharks with the rates of other fishes. Cant seem to understand the need to switch to plural rates.. Option B corrects this. What is the OA?
I see the question was posted a month back and still the OA is nowhere..strange

Where are these questions coming from? What is the consensus? I am surprised to see how everyone is talking about A being the option. How can "rates" be compared to "rate"?

This is what I understand Compared With: When intention is to bring out the differences between to things (regardless of whether they are similar or not) Compared To : When intentions is to bring out the similarities between to things (regardless of whether they are similar or not) However a better option could be The metabolic rate of sharks is low compared with the metabolic rates of most other fishes. It would have filled any remaining gap in the parallelism of two clauses.
