IMO C

tell linguists more about xyz than do - "more than" and "do" for tell are required here so eliminate A,B, D

between C and E , E uses "thier" which is ambiguous, does not clearly refer to children, hence C is clear answer.

i assume that learn is parallel to use ,can someone explain more with examples.

in the question after the idiom more than " the correct forms they use" is using the work they. Isnt they ambiguous? They can refer to linguists or children .. The way we eliminated choice A saying they is ambiguous , shouldnt the same rule apply?
