"helpfully" always is wrong on GMAT.

Although I vote for E, I haven't seen such a forbidden sentence with so many commas. The author must be drunk while writing it E for me.

 haa haa... good one! IMO E as well.. Wonder what happened to the other 2 choices.. it is possible that one of them was right!?
