A:to make ever more precise measurements that scientists hope will enable them to - CORRECT. Parallel and consise.

B:to make ever more and more precise measurements, which scientists are hoping to enable them - wordy, not parallel. WRONG

C:for making ever more precise measurements, and scientists hope that they will be able to - not parallel, unidiomatic.WRONG

D:with the purpose of making more precise measurements than ever, and which scientists hope will enable them to - not parallel.WRONG

E:in order to make more precise measurements than it ever did, and scientists are hoping they will be able to - not parallel. WRONG

Concise and parallelism.

Answer: A

A:to make ever more precise measurements that scientists hope will enable them to

B:to make ever more and more ...
Redundant...

C:for making ever more precise measurements, and scientists hope that they will be able to
Intent is that the measurements will enable the scientists... this separates the two.

D:with the purpose of making more precise measurements than ever, and which scientists hope will enable them to

Unidiomatic usage "with the purpose of" in this case... "which" does not refer to noun, but to a phrase... Incorrect.

E:in order to make more precise measurements than it ever did, and scientists are hoping they will be able to

Same as C along with the "than it ever did", which probably is not the intent of the original sentence.

A it is ... it maintains parallel structure.

C has problem with the second IC. It distorts the meaning.

measurements enable scientist to understand how the solar system formed some four billion years ago. C is missing this meaning.

After reading twice , I spot the second part of (C) is flawed by distortion ......meaning SC is killing me...

the OA is (A)
