OK all, my answer was A too. but the OA is B. any thoughts?

- Perhaps the "OA" is wrong since I don't know the source of the SET.

B sounds wrong becuase

- "his" could refer to Boyle and not to Humphry.
- Critique and his envisioning are not ||

Even I got A.
But I think B may be right.
"as well as" becomes redundant with words like "both" and "all"

In both X as well as Y , "as well as" is redundant.

And critique and envisioning , both are used as noun. So its parallel.
