The number of North American children who are obese—that is, who have more body fat than do 85 percent of North American children their age—is steadily increasing, according to four major studies conducted over the past 15 years. If the finding reported above is correct, it can be properly concluded that (A) when four major studies all produce similar results, those studies must be accurate (B) North American children have been progressively less physically active over the past 15 years (C) the number of North American children who are not obese increased over the past 15 years – as the total number of children has to grow, the number of not obese children also grow. (D) over the past 15 years, the number of North American children who are underweight has declined (E) the incidence of obesity in North American children tends to increase as the children grow older

CThe number of children who are obese is tight with the total number of children by 85% criteria.Reminder for me: "concluded" means "must be true" (C) the number of North American children who are not obese increased over the past 15 years – as the total number of children has to grow, the number of not obese children also grow. - must be true due to 85% criteria.

C
since, the argument says that the number is increasing (not the %), C is the only logical choice that does not require making unnecessary assumptions.

I got it down to C but then confused myself due to the wording. I was looking for the statement that has to be true. Statement C says that 'as the total number of children has to grow'. That wording almost lead me to believe that from the passage we could conclude that the total number of children has to grow and so does the number of not obese children. ex. 'I think you should open up a dietary clinic, as the total number of obese children has to grow'. Here it makes the statement seem more like a conclusion that a premise. I think It would have been clearer if the statement said 'IF the total number of children grows so does the total number of not obese children. But I guess the whole point is to confuse us.
