D. The nurse told me that the doctor's office had closed at 5:00 P.M.
E. The nurse told me that the doctor's office would have to close at 5:00 P.M.


Please explain why each option is correct/incorrect and if incorrect, in which other ways can it be corrected/stated.

This is a weird question, because most answers could be true based on the situation the statement is written in.

According to me A is correct, because the doctors office would close at a predefined time everdyay (5:00 pm) hence closes is the right verb

The other options are all in the past tense.

OA is A.

Even I thought that each statement would stand on its own depending on the situation. Hence, I didn't know which one to pick.
I chose D on this one.

Well, we need to evaluate other options only if something is wrong with original sentence. Here original sentence is perfectly alright, so no need to look into other answer choices.

Agree with the OA. A is best. B is a bit tricky due to the past tense of "closed". Anyway...weird q.

Other choices change the meaning of sentence. A is best!
