Re: The physical strcture of the human eye enables it to sense [#permalink]
I have seen this question somewhere and I think the answer is (C)
(A) has a problem.

..infrared radiation, however, is invisible because its wavelength - 0.1 millimeters - is too long to be registered by the eye.

We can make it short like this

..its wavelength is too long to be registered by the eye.

Now, what "be registered by the eye"? "wavelength" or "infrared radiation"?

(A) makes it sound like "wavelength", in fact, "infrared radiation" is "registered by the eye"

(C) sounds clumsy but correct

...infrared radiation, however, is invisible because its wavelength - 0.1 millimeters - is too long for the eye to register it

Obviously, we know "its" is "infrared radiation" . Therefore, the second "it" must be "infrared radiation" as well.

Correct me if I am wrong.

D has incorrect sequence of verb linked by conjunction "and"

Paul, To me "A" seems to be saying that "infrared is invisible", but doesn't make it clear to what or whom infrared is invisible, I found it ambiguous as it was not clear if "infrared" is invisible to the human eye or something or somebody else....any thoughts ? :?:

But who says the passive voice is always wrong on the GMAT? OA is surprisingly A.
