The probability of safely crossing the street in New York is 0.4. If Padma crosses 3 streets everyday, What is the probability that she would safely cross one of the streets?
a. 0.064 b. 0.144 c. 0.216 d. 0.432 e. 0.936

the answer should be 0,4... however, if we are asked whats the probability that padma is safe after crossing the 3 streets, answer is 0,4^3=0,064

Short way is 1-(.4)(.4)(.4) = .936

Long way is

Prob she gets hit the first time = .6
Prob she gets hit the second time = .4*.6 = .24
Prob she gets hit the third tie = .4*.4*.6 = .096

Add those three up and you get .936
