Why in option 'E' Digital remastering required a verb ?

And how can a verb be introduced into this sentence

Please explain
thanks

option E --> there is no verb for the Subject Digital mastering. Everything that follows after the comma is a modifier modifying the subject. That is why E is wrong.

that means Edited acts as a verb of digital files instead of digital remastering ..

For E to work, it would need to say something like this:

Digital remastering, the process by which blah blah blah, is increasingly common.

As it is, we never finish the sentence. We just say "Digital remastering," put a modifier, and end. All the verbs ("are converted . . . , edited . . . , and filtered") apply to "recordings." DR is the process by which recordings are converted, edited, and filtered.

I solved this problem by first eliminating A and B. As daagh pointed out, it's redundant to say "the process is the method" or "the process is the way." Other than that, A worked just fine, so I looked for a choice that fixed the redundancy while keeping the nice parallel list of verbs. C was the only one that worked.
