The psychological stress of telling a lie produces certain physiological changes. By using appropriate instruments, the physiological symptoms of lying can be measured and result in reliable lie detection.

Which of the following, if true, most weakens the above argument?
A) lie detectors are sensitive machines that require constant maintenance
B) lying is only moderately stress-inducing to some people
C) lie detector operators must be highly trained and careful
D) numerous kinds of psychological stress produce similar physiological symptoms
E) measurement instruments such as lie detectors can be musused and abused

D is my final answer.

E would seem close but the fact that it can be misused does not deviate from the fact that the instrument can actually be used to measure stress without tampering.

There may be some psycological stress beacuse of say fatique which produce same physiological effect and can be captured by instrument. This does not mean that he was lying.

D does total damage to the statement.

To weaken the argument we need to show that telling a lie is not the only thing that causes physiological changes and that we cannot distinguish between changes caused by other types of stress. Hence D.
