The rear–most end of a 66 foot truck exits a 330 foot tunnel exactly 6 seconds after the front–most end of the truck entered the tunnel. If the truck traveled the entire tunnel at a uniform speed, what is the speed of the truck in miles per hour (1 mile = 5,280 feet)?

A. 225
B. 90
C. 45
D. 37.5
E. 27

total distace covered =330+66=396foot = 396/5280 miles
time =6sec = 6/3600 hrs
speed = (396/5280)/(6/3600)
=45mph

Ans C

Can you please explain bit more ?? why did we need to add 66 to 330 ?

Because the truck covered the length of the tunnel plus the length of the truck itself in 6 seconds.

The rear–most end of a 66 foot truck exits a 330 foot tunnel exactly 6 seconds after the front–most end of the truck entered the tunnel.

66+330=396 feet moved / 6 seconds = 66 feet per second

66 X 60=3,960 feet per minute

3,960 X 60 = 237,600 feet per hour

237,600 / 5280 = 45 Miles per hour ( personally I would just do 235/5 see that its 47 and look for the closest answer since the answer choices aren't close)

Let’s find the distance traveled by the front-most end of the truck first. After traveling the 330- foot tunnel, the front-most end travels an extra 66 feet for the rear-most end to exit the tunnel. Thus, the truck travels 330 + 66 = 396 feet in 6 seconds.

Let’s now convert 396 feet to miles and 6 seconds to hours.

396 feet = 396/5280 miles

6 seconds = 6/3600 = 1/600 hours.

Thus, the speed of the truck is (396/5280)/(1/600) = (396 x 600)/5280 = 45 miles per hour.
