What does the sentence E means ,
it should be the answer because their has to go with historians but if there were any other options with historians then would e be correct ??

"E" is right because the sentence itself is plural as defined by "pre occupation of THEIR own time" ... One cannot really use a singular "historian" in the sentence thats the reason everything else is incorrect.

I think D also has a modifier problem ...
Writing about it , (historians should come here)it is inevitable.....

But what does E means the construction of the sentence is weird.
