1.24 - .34 = 90 cents

90/6 = 15 quarter miles

15* 1/5 = 3 miles

3 + .25 = 3.25 total

For first 0.25 miles 34 cents.

So the person is left with 1.24-0.34 = 0.9

So the person can travel next (90/6) times 1/5 miles

i.e 15 *1/5 miles = 3 miles.

SO total distance is 3 + 0.25 = 3.25 miles(C)

Total Rent = Rent for the first 0.25 mile + Rent After 0.25 mile

Rent for the first 0.25 mile = 34 cents
Rent After 0.25 mile = [6 cent/(1/5 mile)]*(x - 0.25) = 30(x-0.25)
Therefore, Total Rent = 35 + 30(x - 0.25)
124 = 34 + 30(x - 0.25)
90 = 30(x - 0.25)
3 = x - 0.25
x = 3 + 0.25 = \$3.25
