D as well. I think A-C are out because the use of 'which' is incorrect .... i think .

Which is required so D & E are out. Now consider tense , simple past is better here against past perfect. so should be A .

C

The results of the company’s cost-cutting measures are evident in its profits, which increased five percent during the first three months of this year after it fell over the last two years.

Bold part is an independent clause. We require "which" as conjunction. So D and E are out.

A and B are out because of wrong tense. We require present perfect tense. C satisfies that.

I think it's D.

The results of the company’s cost-cutting measures are evident in its profits, which increased five percent during the first three months of this year after it fell over the last two years.

Company’s cost-cutting measures are evident in its profits, so we need to give some example as to why it is so.

Option D is giving such example by stating "with a five percent increase during the first three months of this year after falling".
D is simple and concise.

'C' it is. Clear in meaning. Correct usage of tense.

A & B - Wrong tense.

In 'D' & 'E" it is not clear what the second part is talking about.

..for me its a fight betwn C & E.
but in E "with a five percent increase during the first three months of this year after having fallen" its not clear if its modifying Results or profits. So I vote for C .....even though I am not sure abt. C's tense construction.

One more vote for C

Which is required here and

present perfect is required as profits have increased over the period of time (read it during)

Another vote for C:

have increased - the present perfect is required because this is a event that started in past (i.e first 3 months of this year) and still true ( i.e. this year is not over yet)

"which" is required to qualify that the 5 percent increase was in profits, therefore D & E are out

A - uses simple past which implies the increase is not longer true
B - uses past perfect - hence out ..

I was wondering if the experts can help me out with a slight modification of option A.

If the pronoun-antecedent error was taken care of, would option A be correct?

Modified version:
Quote:
The results of the company's cost-cutting measures are evident in its profits, which increased five percent during the first three months of this year, after they fell over the last two years.

Note that I have NOT used the present perfect "have increased" from option C since the word "after they fell" indicates timing properly.
