It's (D) for me too.
||sm '...was conical.......and was banked'. we are talking about the single-family houses here.

But look at the sentence..

Subject The single-family house constructed by the Yana,
phrase modifying Yanaa Native American people who lived in what is now northern California,

predicate was conical in shape

comma ,

subject of other Independent clause its framework of poles
predicate overlaid with slabs of bark, either cedar or pine, and banked with dirt to a height of three to four feet

D it is..
as high as is good...
B and D are out because of that of...
A - to a height of...

D it is for me too, B has a pronoun error, E uses 'that'' incorrectly.
