Its between D and E
C is ruled out IMO
C) Are geared to enhance athlete's performance and their preparation
athlete's is singular and their performance is plural
D looks awkward but I think it is the best in the given choices[/b]

A. B. is geared to enhance the performance of the athletes and to prepare them. C. Are geared to enhance athlete's performance and their preparation D. are geared toward the enhancement of athletes' performane and toward preparing them E. are geared toward enhancing the performance of athletes and preparing them.
"programs" is a plural noun --> "are" is correct --> eliminate A and B
"gear toward" is appealing since it's an idiom --> but I choose C for parallelism "athlete's performance" and "their preparation"
C it is.

Agree with Laxie. In addition, the latter part of the sentence "preparing them" sounds awkward standing there by itself

Haha, well, I think it may be too late to apply this year so maybe later this year I will apply! CEIBS is currently ranked #21 in the world, 2 slots behind UCLA! Amazing!

I'll go for E
A,B ruled out since it starts with 'is' instead of are
C - as trivikram mentions would be correct if it mentioned "atheletes' enhancement and their performance" instead of athelete's
D - enhancement ....preparing...not parallel ?
E - seems to be parallel....a little uncomfortable about the lack of 'toward' before preparing them... but this seems to be the best of the lot...

A - SV agreement: sports medicine programs (plural) - is (singular)
B - same as A
C - pronoun antecedent problem: athlete's (singular) - their (plural)
D -Not parallel: enhancement ,preparing
E - best of the lot. parallel, SV agreement and pronoun antecedent clarity.

Friends,
Even if "C" had been this:
"Are geared to enhance athletes' performance and their preparation "
I think it would be wrong choice. "their" can not refer to "athletes" because "athletes" is used to modify "performance". On the other hand, if it was like this:
"Are geared to enhance performance of athletes and their preparation"
"their" can refer to "athletes".
This concept is explained in the OG for one of the SCs.

E seems to be right comparing with other cases.

I go with E.
I think them should refer back to atletes and not athlete's .

Your explanation does help enlighten me a lot, buddy~!
Btw, do you remember exactly what SC in OG it is?!! Then we can summarize this point and put in "advanced grammar point"

Oops, sorry , I forgot to mention that SC from OG. It's SC no. 90 in the OG (10th Edition). I think this deserves slot in our "AGP" post.
