Not sufficient. We don't know $255 more than what?

St1 + St2: So, if the cancellation was 1 day later, total fee = 595 + 255 = 850 which is 50% of 1700. We are in the 30-16 day window. However, this is a "would have been" scenario which means the cancellation was exactly 30 days earlier than September 4. Sufficient.

Answer (C).

Is there a quick way to derive that 595/1700 = 35% ?

\(\frac{595}{1700}\) --> reduce by 5: \(\frac{119}{340}=\frac{7*17}{17*20}=\frac{7}{20}=35%\).

would you please clear how 1 day later cancellation increases the fees. As per schedule, the more days prior to cancellation, the less fees is charged.

Closer to departure date more fee on cancellation. So, later cancellation date = more fee.

Bunuel, pls explain point number 2. How you are coming to 15% and how you are selecting 31st or 16th day.

$255 is 15% of of a package price. So, 1 day later cancellation increases the fee by 15%.

15% difference is from 31st to 30th day and from 16th to 15th day, so the trip was canceled either 31 or 16 days prior to 4th of September

Statement two alone is not sufficient to answer the question. Eliminate answer choice B.

Statements One and Two Together:

Using statements one and two, we know that the trip was canceled between 31 and 45 days (inclusive) before September 4 and that had the trip been canceled one day later, the fee would have been $255 more. From this information, we can determine that the trip was canceled 31 days before September 4, because had it been canceled 30 days before the trip, the fee would have been $1,700 x 0.5 = $850, which is $255 more than the fee of $595.

Since we know that the trip was canceled 31 days before the trip, we can determine the exact date on which it was canceled.

Answer: C
