Are you sure you got the question right? The median is defined for a set of values/points, so the median of score 73 doesn't make sense. Or did you mean which score interval containes the median of the whole set?

Also I see 70-70, did you mean 70-79?

If the numbers are sorted,
median will be the middle value if the list has odd numbers(like 5 numbers)
median will be the average of the middle 2 values if the list has even numbers(like 6 numbers, median will be average of 3 and 4)

If the questions is asking whether median 73 is in what range taking each ranges seperately, then the answer is 70-79. I dont think this is the question though as there is nothing really to find out here .

But if the questions is asking whether median 73 is in what range taking all ranges into consideration(in total 73 scores, then the answer is 80-89 - total numbers of scores is 73 and the median will be the 37th score which falls in the 80-89 range.

thats perfect !!!!
question is asking about median 73 wrt to all the ranges. even the answer says its 80 - 89, however I am not sure about the reasoning / logic. How come median 37 comes in 80 - 89. Is that because all scores after 27 will fall under 80 - 89 range?

divakarbio7 has to get his sentences right. We can't understand anything. The "score 73" you are talking about is misleading because badly written. One should read "in what range is the median of all 73 scores?"

50 - 59 2
60 - 69 10
70 - 79 16
80 - 89 27
90 - 97 18

Total scores= 2+10+16+27+18 = 73, which is odd, therefore the median is the Floor(73/2)+1 = 37th score. And the 37th score is in the 80-89 range, because 50-79 only reference 28 scores.

Make sure you write down things correctly next time

First: - I have posted the question as it was presented to me from some source (so I am not the author of this question!!)
Second :- it is all about how you interpret ( Choice is yours!!!)

Any ways thanks for figuring out the confusion & wordiness of the problem ( these will be avoided in the next posts)

Have a good day !!!!
