E reads a little too passive and wordy.

(C) does the trick for a few reasons.

1. Because of ~ is idiomatic
2. Intricate depicition is accurate and concise
3. Reads smoother.

"C" cannot be the answer as "Because" does not represent well the inherent irony in the statement. I am inclined to choose "E", as, "Given A, it is a wonder that B is not happenning" goes well.
