(C) that the universe began in a state of simplicity and contrast but metamorphosised into great variety.

(D) regarding the universe that it beginning in a state of simplicity and contrast, has metamorphosed into great variety.

(E) that the universe, beginning in a state of simplicity and contrast, has metamorphosed into great variety.

is "metamorphosised" a typo?
I'll take B and explain if it's right. Give it some time for others to answer too :)

You need "that" to connect the sentence, so (D) is out.
"but" in (C) changes the meaning of sentence, as we need to have sense of continuty here(Universe started ..... and has [over the period of time] metamorphesed into .......)
This sense is clear only in (B) and (E) ((A) having begun is wrong) i think in first sentence we need simple past tense to make the relation.
Between (B) and (E), (Again in (E) i think we need simple past) so (B) is best IMO.

I will go with B on this one.
C, However, makes sense to me. It started as simple but metamorphosised ......

ans for mme is B ...

C is good but for the 'but' ... soemhow breakz the flow of the sentence.

any more explanations wud be of some great Use...

The OA is A and for a stupid reason!
Its about metamorphosed v/s metamorphosised
Is this kind of question GMAT related?

I thought metamorphosised was a typo. Otherwise B would have been good. I don't believe this question is representative of the GMAT verbal
