The toll for crossing a certain bridge is $0.75 each [#permalink] New post 09 Oct 2008, 06:00
The toll for crossing a certain bridge is $0.75 each crossing. Drivers who frequently use the bridge may instead purchase a sticker each month for $13.00 and then pay only $0.30 each crossing during that month. If a particular driver will cross the bridge twice on each of x days next month and will not cross the bridge on any other day, what is the least value of x for which this driver can save money by using the sticker?

A. 14
B. 15
C. 16
D. 28
E. 29

Not sure whether I understood the question properly.

For x days, if the driver uses sticker and if x <=21 then driver will pay $13. But, without sticker, the driver will be 0.75*2*x = 1.5x

In order for the driver to save money, 1.5x > 13 or x > 13/1.5 or x > 8 and the very first answer choice should be the correct answer.

lets take it takes x days for better savings. Than
and each day he crosses twice the bridge
So
0.75(2x) = 13 + 0.3(2x)
=> x = 14.44 days

So least number of days is 15
Answer is B)

You are right. I missted "then" keyword after "$13" in the question.
