Awesome post dimitri92. I have 2 questions on this pdf. Pls refer to pg 2 and pg 10 1. Please refer to page 2. Object vs. Subject If a noun is subject of a verb, the verb should end with ‘ed’ If a noun is object of a verb, the verb should end with ‘ing’ Local times determined Determining local times |
I think what you are trying to say is - passive voice - use the ed form active voice - use ing form Is this correct? 2. Page 10 which one is correct? The running back ran towards the end zone, faster and harder than he had ever run before The running back ran faster and harder towards the end zone, than he had ever run before Thanks

sorry for replying late
1. actually there's a typo in the flashcard .. it should be
If a noun is object of a verb, the verb should end with ‘ed’ If a noun is subject of a verb, the verb should end with ‘ing’
Local times determined Determining local times
this actually refers to an already discussed post challenging-question-95367.html
moreover, this was taken from Sahilz SC Notes
2. The running back ran towards the end zone, faster and harder than he had ever run before
you're probably thinking that "faster and harder .. " incorrectly modifies end zone ... but this is not the case here
Noun modifiers: these are phrases or clauses that modify a noun. It is essential that noun modifier and nouns should touch each other. I met Gerard, who is the captain of English football team.
Verb modifiers: these modify verbs. Such modifiers answer the questions such as "how", "when" etc. Verb modifiers do not necessarily have to touch the verb they modify. The running back ran towards the end zone, faster and harder than he had ever run before
here faster and harder does not modify the running back ... it answers the question "how" he ran ... and is a verb modifier
i hope the above points are clearer.

this was taken from Sahilz SC Notes btw

I think the flash cards are also mentioning :
If a noun is subject of a verb, the verb should end with ‘ed’ If a noun is object of a verb, the verb should end with ‘ing’
Local times determined : Local Times Sub and verb -ed Determining local times : Local Times Obj and verb -ing
The point is still not clear... Have u modified the flash cards because the pt mentioned above only is present in flash cards...
If u mean other way then eg. does not supports it...

If cannot be used as a subordinate clause connected with "can" in the main clause. I found an exception to the rule. GMAT OG SC Question 12 Rising inventories, when unaccompanied correspondingly by increases in sales, can lead to production cutbacks that would hamper economic growth. Answer: if not accompanied by corresponding increases in sales, can lead So is the rule mentioned in the flashcards wrong?
