The use of pesticides containing high levels of toxins is experiencing a mild resurgence among farmers, even though pesticides containing high levels of toxins cause more human illnesses than pesticides containing low levels of toxins. The advantage of using pesticides containing high levels of toxins is that such pesticides kill crop-destroying insects more effectively and allow farmers to make a higher profit than they would otherwise be able to make.

Which of the following is information provided by the passage?
A. Use of pesticides containing high levels of toxins is not worth the risk to human health.
B. Use of pesticides containing high levels of toxins violates environmental protection laws.
C. Among farmers, use of pesticides containing high levels of toxins has in the past been both more common and less common than it is now.
D. Crop-destroying insects are less dangerous to human health than are pesticides strong enough to kill them.
E. Crop-destroying insects are no longer susceptible to pesticides containing low levels of toxins.

A: Passge does discuss about the risk to human health is worthy or not
B: There is no mention of environmental protection laws in the passage
C: It is only said that there is a mild resurgence, but no mention of how much usage was there in the past

So the answer has to be either D or E.

E: Passage only says that high level toxin pesticide is more effective. That does not mean low level toxin pesticide are no longer useful

So I believe D is the answer.

In my opinion it could be C or E. But I agree to what you say about E. So, let me explain C:

Among farmers, use of pesticides containing high levels of toxins has in the past been both more common and less common than it is now.. The blue colored portion here goes with 'mild resurgence' mentioned in passage.

My feeling about D is it cannot be infered from the passage that insects harm human being. The passage mentions pesticides harming human, but not the insects.

Meaning of Resurgence: A continuing after interruption, renewal

So the usage of high level toxin pesticides could have been more or less (we don't know) and C says both more common and less common, so I think you are right...

My wife is pregnant and we have been reading a lot about organic food and pesticides, so I might have got influenced by it :)

Good discussion...

Has to be between D n E. I pick E because there's no information about the effects of crop destroying insects on human.

I would go with E because of the below statement in the question.
"The advantage of using pesticides containing high levels of toxins is that such pesticides kill crop-destroying insects more effectively"

Is this question correct? If so, it has to be either C, D or E. However, each of C, D and E contain one disputable element. OA please?

Which of the following is information provided by the passage?
A. Use of pesticides containing high levels of toxins is not worth the risk to human health. passage does not provide enough info to clearly conclude this - even though this is true from general experience - in GMAT general logical experiences must NOT BE BROUGHT IN while evaluating answer choices. The evaluation must be based strictly on the grounds of information provided in the passgae. Look at the passage - it says "high toxins pesticide cause MORE HUMAN ILLNESSES - but does it mean it's a risk to human health? The passage would have had to be more specific for us to make this choice. More human illnesses = risk to human health is what it is trying to trap us into.
B. Use of pesticides containing high levels of toxins violates environmental protection laws. Again while this may be true, env protection laws are not cited anywhere in the passge thus cannot be inferred
C. Among farmers, use of pesticides containing high levels of toxins has in the past been both more common and less common than it is now.
D. Crop-destroying insects are less dangerous to human health than are pesticides strong enough to kill them. compares insects with pesticides but we cant say for sure
E. Crop-destroying insects are no longer susceptible to pesticides containing low levels of toxins.
their suceptiblity is not in question but tehe efficacy of pesticides is

dwivedys is right.

"Resurgence of the use" here means that usage is returning to previous levels. That means that a short while before the passage was written usage of high-toxin pesticides was lower, because it is currently increasing. At some point father back in the past it was at a level high enough that now usage is returning to that level (usage is 'resurging').

The most important part of this, is that if the info was not explicitly written in the passage, it does not belong in your answer choice!

So...

A. The subjective question of "worth" was not mentioned.
B. Laws were not mentioned.
C. What is meant by "resurgence".
D. The danger of insects to human health was not mentioned.
E. That high-toxin pesticides "kill insects... more effectively" does not mean that ALL insects are NOT AT ALL susceptible to low-toxin pesticides. (Susceptibility of insects to low-toxin pesticides was not mentioned.) In other words, this language is too extreme.
