The vast majority of people now depend on the media, both electronic and press, for information about criminal trials, instead of personal observation or spectator reports. Thus, the media serve as representatives of those private citizen observers and reporters of trials.

Given that the public has the right to know about trials, the author's position above best justifies which of the following?
A) limiting nonmedia access to trials
B) censoring media reports on criminal court proceedings
C) sequestering juries in criminal trials that are covered by the media
D) expanding the right of the press to be present and cover trial proceedings
E) requiring prosecuting and defense lawyers to give press briefings in criminal trials

D.

As media is the representative and people rely on its reports, it will be a good idea to expand media's presence (position) in the trail room.

A talks of extreme step. We are talking of increasing one's presence not restricting other's.
B is opposite to what author states.
C beyond question. Sequestering jury won't serve any purpose.
E when press is allowed in the trial room itself no briefing would be required.

IMO (D) is best, if representatives of people (In this case "press") are present in the court then people will be able to get fair idea of what is happening with the trial.
