HEY! NC, after all the essay reviews I've helped you with? I'm hurt! :(

but honestly, people should start giving good posters KUDOS! I see a lot of good posts I give kudos for, and I end up being the only person giving kudos. We were afraid that kudos would be too "inflated" as everyone would be giving them out freely, but right now it seems everyone's too "stingy" to give more out. :P

River, I'll get you someday... I will.

Kudos.... some people are stingy, some people give it out to freely, Some only give it to people they have built rapport with, some people aren't even aware of it.

It's not a competition though.

Although one issue i've ntoiced (not related to kudos). there are some people on the forums who are post-boosting. Just trying to get enough posts so they can see some of the restricted forums i guess. (look in the off topic forum).

no, kudos are not for competition, but they are there for users to pick out the best posts and posters. If a certain post gets a lot of kudos, it will show up on the "best post" list and thus have more visibility to others who may find it useful (instead of just having me run around collecting links when I see them and putting them into the knowledge vault). Also, having posters with high kudos allow new users to know whose opinion is generally regarded as valuable to many people and also allows the users to contact those posters with any specific questions they may have.

And finally, kudos is there to roughly gauge the level of *valuable* contribution to the club, and thus Praet can let them into the Essay Vaults once that gets populated.

As for post boosting, if you do see someone doing that, report it to one of the mods or Praet and we will warn him/her.

Kry, togafoot has sent me a PM informing me that you are posting a lot of nonsense to beat rhyme's post count. What do I do with him?

This thread reminds me of when rhyme used to hand out trophies for high gmat scores. That idea was scrapped and perhaps this should be as well, no offense to the OP.

Aren't the kudos enough?

hahaha

It was a pic that he would reply with. It was quite large and he gave it to all who scored 700+. If I remember correctly, there were Gold, Silver and Bronze levels for breaking certain thresholds. If not, that was certainly up for discussion. Then, there was some more discussion about a platinum level etc. It got a bit out of hand. Ultimately, rhyme stopped handing them out.

Much kudos to ncprasad, I think he put it well.

I think kudos + mod + # of posts = reputable contributor of gmatclub. Also, there are a lot of gmatclub members from last year who have all but disappeared, but I would pay attention to their advice in a heartbeat, should they return. pelhu, rhyme & aaudetat are just a handful who have lingered around to help this class. and kudos to them.

sorry rhyme, trophy used w/o your permission

Big thanks to everyone for sharing their views....

So, after much debate it has been decided that constructing a wall of fame at this time could potentially make this structure unstable. Fair decision...

Ahem...I even changed the title for this thread

I'm completely happy for all those who were admitted to business school this year, regardless of where they go. However, I'm not entirely sure what exactly makes nervousgmat's fortune so incomprehensible. Look at her stats/profile...they are great! She obviously worked her ass off for many years and is now reaping the rewards. And yet how is this different from any other admit before or after? Everyone who goes to b-school works hard, sacrafices, and has their ups and downs. The GMAT Club is an amalgamation of the best and brightest (and more than slightly neurotic  ), and is "the wall" of achievement in my opinion.

Re: The wall that never was.... [#permalink]
well said Victory, but what makes nervous' accomplishments 'incomprehensible' is the fact that the admissions process is so random, yet she *consistently* got into every school she applied to, and most with $$.

The best example to my point is terry12, who has an equally impressive and amazing story, and must have written some "knock 'em out" essays to get admits to FOUR UE schools, amongst them one of the most impossible schools to get into (1 out of 41 GMATClubbers got int so far). And then HBS rejects him? WTF??? That is the randomness I'm talking about. Just because you're a god (like terry) or a goddess (like nervous), there's *always* that not-so-slim-chance that you get rejected by a school, even if you get accepted into every peer school around it. How else is it that only 3 out of 10 or so applicants did the "hat trick" of getting into both Chicago and Kellogg, where most failed?

But yes, this club is a "Wall of Fame" in itself, and people here have all worked their a**es off to get into their dream schools. We're all here to help each other out and keep this a sacred ground for MBA applicants and students.

Hmmm...I dug up this old thread.

I think we should start nominating Stars of Class of 2011 Application Year.
Contenders so far:

1) Zoinnk (HBS, Wharton)
2) Isa (aka AC) (Booth, Tuck, Kellogg, Duke, and eventually Wharton and Columbia)
3) MSDAY (Cornell, Wharton, HBS, and probably MIT and Stanford...)
4) Mikus (HBS, Wharton and eventually Stanford...)
5) CPGMBA (HBS, Kellogg, Michigan, Duke)
6) IHTG (Tuck, Cornell, Duke, and eventually Yale)

Anyone else did I forget? Who do YOU think deserves it this year?

Let the Debate Begin! :-D
