here "blue whale and the other baleen whales" is plural so eat is correct verb....so A and C are out
The way whales eat was discovered by scientists through careful observation is correct usage....which is B

"blue whale and the other baleen whales" is plural , so "eat" is correct, Eliminate A and C
"The way" is singular, Eliminate D
Between B and E, Option E is wordy and awkaward. B wins

Is the formulation "the way in which" proper by the way? It sounds so weird to my ears...
