B.
A - work both rooted - incorrect; atleast needs comma after work to indicate "both rooted.." modifying work.
C/D/E - changes meaning; indicating two persons: a Jazz pianist and gamjatang monk friend produced thw work

B looks good. Keeps the meaning of the original sentence.

I think both is misused in B. The sentence is comparing jazz styles rather than jazz musicians.
D would be the better choice, but it lacks a comma after composer.
OA/OE?

makes sense to me also. Between B and D, I choose D.

GMATT73 got the point.
The OA is D.

A. Thelonious Monk, who was a jazz pianist and composer, produced a body of work both rooted
------> "both" is incorrectly placed --->wrong
B. Thelonious Monk, the jazz pianist and composer, produced a body of work that was rooted both
-------> the use of "the" is weird ....Thelonious Monk is not the only or ultimately outstanding jazz pianist and composer in the world ---> out
C. Jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk, who produced a body of work rooted
----> the insertion of "who" here makes the first clause lack of main verb--->out
D. Jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk produced a body of work that was rooted
------> perfect!
E. Jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk produced a body of work rooted both
----> problem with "both"
D stands the best.
