There are 10 books on a shelf. What is the probability that five of them stay next to each other?

P = 6!*5!/10!

Thanks both of you for posting nice questions as well as answering them.

Shouldn't it be:

5C10*5!/10!

If I am wrong please explain why?

Take the 5 books that need to stay together as one book. Then, the total no. of books is 6 and they can be arranged in 6! ways. The 5 books taken together can themselves be arranged in 5! ways.

Total no. of ways of arranging 10 different books = 10!

Therefore, prob = 6!*5!/10!
