There are four contestants in the competition for 6 different prizes. A contestant can win only one prize. How many different outcomes are possible at the competition for the four contestants?

A) 15

B) 30

C) 60

D) 180

E) 360

I think it's a permutation. I'd choose E.

I think the correct answer is D.

Just try to imagine putting 4 ppl into 6 seats. where the four ppl can choose any of the 6 seats.

So its 6P4...OR 180.

6P4 is = 360 (NOT 180) So the answer would be E.

I did it this way.
Assume we have to seat 4 people in 6 chairs.
so Chose 4 seats first = 6C4 = 15
then 4 people can seat in 4! ways
so total ways = 6C4 * 4! = 15*24 = 360
