I go with A.

I think the the extra 'than' is a distractor.

'more than ten times as much energy is generated through wind power now than it was in 1990'

'than ten times as much' is just describing how much more. If you remove it then it becomes clearer.

ex. more engery is generated through wind power now than it was in 1990.

The correct idiom is more..than not more...as.

as much ...as is the correct idiom..A and E are out.
B and D looks similar ...and has a "it".

Sentence has pronoun referent and as much as usage issues.

A, B and D – it has no clear referent – may point to energy/wind power – eliminate it

A) generated through wind power now than it was
B) generated through wind power now as it was
C) generated through wind power now as was the case
D) now generated through wind power as it was
E) now generated through wind power than was the case [as much … than is incorrect usage – eliminate it]

Answer: C
