commitment is uncountable, thus we need to use "less" here.
answer E looks confusing and awkward.
We need to choose btw B and D.
B has no tense.
because it is required to have a clear tense here to make this sentence sound clear, pick D.

Agree with D. Committment incorrectly compared with parents and grandparents; it should instead be compared with committment of parents and grandparents. Correctly revised in D.

Two splits here
1) commitment is uncountable, hence use "less" with commiiment.
2) we need "had" to show that older generation "had" more commitment.

(D) takes cares of both these issues.

1. Original sentence made a comaprison between 'young people's commitment to work' and 'parents and grandparents'. Therefore, there is a comparison issue.
2. Commitment is uncountable therefors 'Less' should be used instead.

'D' resolves these issues

commitment cannot be counted so instead of small less should be used, that leaves us with B, D and E.
Out of the three D is the right answer as "Had" indicates the past tense correctly. :)

D wins. we need to add "had" at the end of the sentence to complete the comparison. This sentence has a comparison error.

Two issues are there That question .

1- adjective or adverb (smaller or less)
.Smaller is adjective and can't modifying have ;It's modifying young people ;Hence ,incorrect .We need less which is working as adverb.
2- Comparison .In original sentence convey two meaning.
A--young people ...............Than to their grand parents
B- young people ................Than their grand parents had(we can't infer grand parents is subject or object of second clause.

D- convey The best of meaning and compassion

Give me kudos

Ans- D
"Less" should be used in place of "Smaller" as Commitment is not countable. So A,C are out.
Also "Had" is required in the sentence "than their Parenets and Grandparents".

Option E is out due to sentence "a Lessening of commitment".

Out of remaining options-B & D, D is correct.
