24. There is little point in looking to artists for insights into political issues. Most of them hold political views that are less insightful than those of any reasonably well-educated person who is not an artist. Indeed, when Page
taken as a whole, the statements made by artists, including those considered to be great, indicate that artistic talent and political insight are rarely found together.

Which one of the following can be inferred from the passage?

(A) There are no artists who have insights into political issues.
(B) A thorough education in art makers a person reasonably well educated.
(C) Every reasonably well-educated person who s not an artist has more insight into political issues than any artist.
(D) Politicians rarely have any artistic talent.
(E) Some artists are no less politically insightful than some reasonably well-educated persons who are not artists.

How to attack this type of problem ?

Just try to elimnate answers one by one.

A. This is too strong, and is not supported since it talks about ALL artists.

B. May or may not be true. Unsupported by the text.

C. Again to strong same as A. Watch for answers that refer to 'ALL' when most would be supported.

D. Supported as long as we can establish that "polititicans have political insight.

E. Can be reread some artists are at least as politically insightful as some reasonaly educated non-artists. This is almost supported by the text, as long as we extrapolate that by saying "Most artists are less" implies atleast 1 artists is not.

I vote for E. (D closely behind)

E is clearly the best answer
I rephrased the second sentence of the stem and also rephrased E:
Most [artists] hold political views that are less insightful than those of any reasonably well-educated person who is not an artist
E) Some artists are at least as insightful as some reasonably well-educated persons who are not artists

As you can see, rephrased as such, E is clearly the best option. When you have comparative forms, make sure you can rephrase those convoluted phrases so as to be in a better position to compare them with the stem. Also, tweak the stem if you need to.

D is misleading at best. We know that artists have little insights into politics. This in no way means that politicians have no artistic talents. It is like saying that only a small number of mushrooms are venimous and then conclude that venimous things are rarely mushrooms. This may be wrong if mushrooms comprise 90% of venimous things.
