1st point of elimination : IDIOM is greater..than and more..than NOT greater..as or more...as

OPTIONS LEFT : C and E

E has verb error : for plural differences singular 'is' is being used. HENCE answer is c

I'd like to know "greater ... than" should be used only refer to single statistic otherwise used "more ... than".
Why greater ... than could be used here ?
