I will go with D

a and c are wrong bcause formely henri rousseau's paintings are considered ill formed and primitive and not henri.

e has due to being in it... so eliminate it.

btw B and D, B sounds as the paintings of henri has estabilished henri, while the sentence started with the discussion about painting... so eliminate B

choose D

I chose B because this is the only choice which is clear. All other choices distort meaning as pointed out by Wudy.

I would go with A as there is nothng wrong with the sentence and moreover other options change the meaning.

The subject should be about Henri Rousseau's canvases, noy Henri himself.
The words "ill-formed and primitive" are descriptions of paintings, not Henri's personalities.
So A is wrong. OA is B.
