Can someone provide a detailed explanation for options (A) and (B).

I guessed option (B).....not knowing the differentiating point between A and B.

The original sentance can also be read as Though he'd had success..... Since, the sentence is linking past action to the present, the use of past participle is, in my opinion, necessary.

My choice was between A and D. To point out that one event occurred before the other, past perfect tense is apropriate. Choice D uses present perfect tense, which is wrong. OA is A.

Why C is wrong? pls, help

is good in this sentence and C is right?

we do not need "had done" in A because we do not need sequence
