Re: A man after travelling 50 kms meets his friend who counsels him to go [#permalink]
My guess...it is the original speed they r asking!

it means man travel 24km in 10min
Then 144km/hr is the speed of man.

Which speed are you asking?

Q.
A man after travelling 50 kms meets his friend who counsels him to go slower. He then proceeds at 3/4th of his former speed and arrives at his destination 35 mins late.Had the meeting occured 24 km further the man would have reached its destination 25 mins late. The speed of man is

a.48 km/hr
b.36 km/hr
c. 54 km/hr
d. 58 km/hr

Soln:
Let the original speed of man be x.
Reduced speed is (3/4)x.

Since meeting after 50kms, and the reducing his speed he reaches his destination 35mins late.
But if the meeting had happened after 74kms(24 kms further) he reaches only 25 mins late.

Therefore the difference of 10 mins happens because of him travelling this 24kms at the different speeds( the original and the reduced)

thus
24/(3x/4) - 24/x = (10/60) => dividing 10 by 60 to convert into hours
solving this equation we get x = 48km/hr
