Tips on buying a suit [#permalink]

I would like some advice on buying a suit. I want to look good and from what I've heard, I should try to find a really good tailor. My question is where do I buy the suits from?. Department stores?. I don't want to break the bank but I'm willing to pay good money for a suit that I can wear on interviews and business engagements. Any advice is apprecitead.

Depends where you are. As vgeech mentioned you can find very good tailors in southeast Asia that'll make you a made-to-measure suit for less than US$100. At retail in the US, you'll probably be looking at around $400 on the low end. If you don't have a lot to spend, you're better off spending a bit less on the suit and a bit more on tailoring the suit to fit you better.
Also take a look through this thread, there are a lot of tips on sales from different higher end stores (Brooks Brothers, Nordstrom, etc) where you can get very steep discounts on their suits. For example last month Brooks Brothers was giving 50% off on their suits, which brought the price down to $400-$450.
