D for me. BCE change meaning ("economical"). Between A and D - the "would" sounds more correct.

I was debating between B and D. I was leaning towards B because in order to accurately forecast something, you "HAVE" to know something.... and for some reason I found social and economical to go well rather than social and economic.

Hence B??!!

I would go with D. I believe you need a "would" here. Social and economic are parallel.

C-sounds much better
D-economic is right --strongest so far
E-more than ..(thee do) now..no

I go with D.

i really hate such SCs. The right choice ( that seems) usually has a trap in the end. Does the real GMAT have such traps as well. 1000SC is full of them.

OA is D

economical is awkward, thus B,C,E are out now between A&D

To develop more accurate population forecasts, demographers have to know a great deal more than now about the social and economic determinants of fertility.

would have to know a great deal more than they do now about the social and economic -> would indicates the future tense and "they do" is essential here
