E is an incorrect answer on the Sets key...

You need an economic at the end and not "economical"

It has to be D.

Economic is the right word which is present only in A and D options. A is incorrect because of invalid comparison. That leaves D as the right choice.

D, too.
OA is incorrect.
I read this online.... ( I would post the link here, but as a new member I am not allowed to post links yet.)

--------------------------------

Economic vs. economical

There are many cases of word pairs such as cyclic and cyclical for which the difference in meaning is minimal. However, there are also similar pairs for which the difference is great. Economic and economical are one such pair.

Economic has to do with the economy, or an economy, be it global, national, or personal: the constant flow of money. Meanwhile, economical refers specifically to something that functions so well that it saves money, so that it is cheap to use. Economical, therefore, has a much more specific meaning than economic.

For examples;

1 - Incorrect - At the summit, the leaders discussed a number of economical issues.

- Correct - At the summit, the leaders discussed a number of economic issues.

2 - Incorrect - We have decided to trade in our car for a more economic one.

- Correct - We have decided to trade in our car for a more economical one.

D. Eliminate B,C and E for "economical". A is not comparing correctly. Hence D.

My choice is D.

A and B refer present tense, whereas the statement refers something in future.

E had 'econimical' which can be eliminated as per the context of the statement.

The source here is quoted as GMATPrep, but I think I remember seeing this question in one of the MGMAT CATs.

in E economical is wrong and verb "they do now" is required after, the verb can't be omitted here as it is not the same as the first verb of the comparison. Tenses are different.

HOW?!

Rather, OA apart, how do we decide between the
have to vs. would have to split? (Tense split - meaning-wise). Can anyone help me here?
for me the tense is a tie. Mainly because both the meanings seem correct to me.

Question 32 Set 1

i pick D here. this is a conditional sentence. one condition is to be fulfilled to develop more accurate population forecasts that demographers need to know more social and economic detrimental facts of fertility. So A and B are out. "economical" is just wrong here so C is out. in E comparison is not expressed properly. correct me if i am wrong.
