I will go with D. Sounds complete to me. The sentence starts off in a subjunctive mood. To develop something more accurately, somebody would have to know more than they do now......There is a sense of "wish" than a "command", in the way the meaning is conveyed.

E cannot be correct. So, don't fret over this, whatever the source of this question. For one, the usage of 'economical' in e is obviously wrong, as many others have already pointed out. Moreover, it is not a parallel comparison structure ("..great deal more than now..").

I will go with D too. However, I have a slightly different questions.

Why is it

would have to know a great deal more than they do now about the social and economic

rather than

will have to know a great deal more than they do now about the social and economic

As many have pointed out 'economical' is wrong and so that leaves us with A and D.. And A uses a wrong comparison. So D is right.

+1 for D

Its D.
If the OA is being quoted from the paper based sets then its wrong. The correct answer is D.

This question is also there on the OG12 (Q41).

According to Manhattan SC, economical means efficient, and that is what we want to say here, so Im with C.
Please clarify.
