To suit the needs of corporate clients, advertising agencies have successfully modified a strategy originally developed for political campaigns. This strategy aims to provide clients with free publicity and air time by designing an advertising campaign that is controversial, thus drawing prime-time media coverage and evoking public comment by officials.

Q) The statement above, if true, most seriously undermines which one of the following assertions?

b) Only a small percentage of eligible voters admit to being influenced by advertising campaigns in deciding how to vote.
c) Campaign managers have transformed political campaigns by making increasing use of strategies borrowed from corporate advertising campaigns.
d) Corporations are typically more concerned with maintaining public recognition of the corporate name than with enhancing goodwill toward the corporation
e) Advertising agencies that specialize in campaigns for corporate clients are not usually chosen for political campaigns

b) - Not really useful. We do not know how consumers will be influenced if this strategy is adopted for corporate customers.
c) - Not important who borrows from who as we're not told how consumers will be affected by the ads.
d) - Irrelevant
e) - Not important

I would go for A. If the usefullness is based on how much the ad persuades the audiences, then it does not matter if there is free publicity, lots of air time and public comments from officials.

^ A ^

The arfument talks about the strategy only with its benefits towards the clients. It will provide free publicity, air time, prime-time media coverage and public comment by officials. However, if we assume that A is true, we can understand that the argument neglects this idea. The important point is the success in persuading the audience not the benefits for the clients.

b) one-sided idea. nothing, related with the strategy mentioned in the argument.

c) This will not challenge the idea

d) "goodwill .." ---> irrelevant

e) again this knowledge is of no use

I cautiously choose A and was glad to find out that it is A indeed. None of the other 4 choices are waekend or undermined (Most of them are not even related to the topic)
